汤加火山喷发及海啸灾后清理工作目前仍在加紧进行。

自洪阿哈阿帕伊岛海底火山爆发并触发海啸之后，汤加的对外通讯中断。周三，新西兰外交部表示，汤加的主岛塔布岛已建立起一个临时通信系统，目前可使用2G信号与外界联络，但通信仍是有限和零散的。

据估计，要完全恢复汤加的网络联通可能仍需一个月或更多时间

当地时间20日，汤加机场重开，第一批国际援助物资终于抵达。

An interim telecommunication system has been set up in Tonga, allowing the tsunami-hit area to connect with the outside world using a 2G network, New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Wednesday.

However, this 2G connection set up by Digicel, an international mobile phone network provider, will be limited and patchy, covering about 10 percent of the usual capacity and prioritizing voice and SMS communications.

The U.S. cable company SubCom said at least four weeks are needed to repair Tonga's cable connection.

So far, power in the Pacific islands country has been restored, with clean-up and damage assessments ongoing. Tongan authorities have been distributing relief supplies.

汤加驻华大使乌塔阿图在周四接受CGTN专访时表示，中国驻汤加大使馆已向汤加提供了10万美元紧急人道主义现汇援助。中国政府通过驻汤加使馆紧急筹措了一批价值28万元人民币的饮用水、食品等应急物资并于19日捐赠汤加政府。

另外，中国政府将应汤方请求援助一批饮用水、食品、个人防护用品、救灾设备等应急物资，待机场恢复运转、飞行条件允许后将尽快运抵。设在广东的中国—太平洋岛国应急物资储备库已紧急启动物资调拨，包括瓶装水、肉类罐头、医疗卫生包、发电机、高压水泵、帐篷等，已做好尽快发运的准备。

外交部发言人赵立坚1月20日在例行记者会上回答相关提问时表示，中方高度关注汤加受灾情况，已经紧急行动起来，尽己所能帮助汤方救灾。中国红十字会已向汤方提供10万美元紧急人道主义现汇援助。中国政府通过驻汤使馆以最快速度筹措了一批价值28万元人民币的饮用水、食品等应急物资，于19日交付汤加。

汤加副首相泰伊出席交付仪式时表示，衷心感谢中国政府迅速向汤伸出援手，这是灾害发生后汤政府收到的首批应急救援物资，承载着汤中两国之间的特殊友好情谊。当地民众纷纷向中国使馆致谢，动情地表示中国才是汤加的真朋友。中方将根据灾情和汤方需要，继续向汤方提供现汇和物资援助，并尽最大努力克服火山灰等不利气象条件影响，尽早运抵。

China will continue to provide Tonga with cash and other disaster-relief materials after the first batch of supplies arrived on the island Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Thursday.

The Chinese Embassy in Tonga has donated $100,000 in basic humanitarian assistance to the tsunami-stricken island nation, Zhao confirmed, adding China urgently delivered drinking water and food supplies to the nation on Wednesday.

Tonga's Deputy Prime Minister Poasi Tei thanked China for offering help, saying the relief supplies donated by the Chinese government are the first batch of emergency relief materials received by the Tongan government after the disaster.
