天问二号航天器已返回地球小月亮卡莫奥阿莱瓦的首批近距离图像，在接近该太空岩石至20公里（12英里）范围内后拍摄到了这些图像。

天问二号计划开展首次专门的小行星采样返回任务。

其初始目标是与卡莫阿莱瓦（官方名称为近地小行星2016HO3）会合，对其进行近距离研究，然后从其表面采集样本并带回地球。

在送回返回舱后，该航天器预计将继续前行，对主带彗星311P泛星彗星进行研究，这使其成为有史以来所开展的最具雄心的行星探测任务之一。

卡莫阿莱瓦特别引人入胜，因为它是地球罕见的准卫星。

它并非直接绕着我们的地球运行，而是沿着一条绕太阳的轨道行进，长时间与地球保持相近距离。

一些研究表明，它可能是远古时期一次撞击从月球上炸出的碎片，不过这一观点最近受到了挑战。

将样本带回地球有助于解开那个谜团。

这些图像展示了这颗小天体形状的不规则性及其表面特征，且细节程度远超之前地基望远镜的观测。

飞越拍摄的图像也有实际用途：任务控制人员将在执行计划中的近距离交会和采样操作之前，利用这些照片完善他们对小行星大小、旋转和表面纹理的模型。

这样的测量对于在一个直径仅几十米的物体周围安全导航至关重要。

地面观测估计这颗小行星的直径约为40至100米（130至330英尺），但新图像显示其直径可能只有约20米（65英尺），这可能会使此次任务比预期更具挑战性。

继天问一号火星任务和嫦娥月球采样返回任务取得成功之后，天问二号旨在验证未来小行星和深空探测所需的技术。
