The exhibition catalog of Chinese artist Lin Hongjun's first solo exhibition in the United States, "Silent Planet", has been published. On this occasion, I would like to share with you the article "Silent Planet" written by writer, curator, and art critic John Francis Larner in the catalog. The following is the full content of this article.

Silent Planet

Lin Hongjun’s recent exhibition “Silent Planet” in New York pondered over those charming and mysterious questions that have fascinated human beings for thousands of years from the perspective of a traveler. She recorded her cognition and imagination of the vast universe on the canvas, excluding the previous narrative, emotions and the existence of human beings, so that the universe became the only subject to be praised. It explored how to face the vast and silent universe like the wilderness when the individual weakens the subjectivity of human beings. Our memories and thoughts about the universe seemed to be integrated into it.

Her works are vast and abstract, meditating on the universe, nature, the body, and matter. Dominant colors gradually sink into the background, fleeting poses disappear, revealing hidden layers. Those colors flow on the canvas like slowly rotating gaseous stars, emitting the bright light of millions of years ago. Golden yellow, green, and purple complement each other, forming planetary mountains, plains, and rivers. It quietly tells a hidden and vivid history trillions of light-years away.

How can we break through the limitations of human perception to explore the imperceptible objects in the universe?  In the long history of the universe, the Earth and humans may just be a fleeting interlude.

The signs of prosperity emerging from the gaps between the concrete jungles have only existed for tens of thousands of years, which is but a moment in the context of the Earth's billions of years of existence.

Lin Hongjun responds to these silent answers with pigments thicker than mountains, these silent exchanges with the stars. When an individual stands before giants, the sense of alterity and the eerily fascinating sense of security they feel is also a projection of self-gazing, inspiring viewers with fresh insights.
