A commencement ceremony was held today in Nanjing to announce the start of construction of Jiangsu section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway, which is also called North Yanjiang High-speed Railway.

The Jiangsu section of the high-speed railway is to integrate cities in central part of Jiangsu into a one-hour commuting circle with Nanjing and Shanghai.
沪渝蓉高铁（北沿江高铁）是国家“八纵八横”高铁网中的沿江高铁通道，主要服务和支撑长江经济带发展和东中西区域协调发展。规划总里程2027公里，途经上海、江苏、安徽、湖北、重庆、四川等6个省市，并连接6个省会城市（直辖市）和13个设区市。
China issued a national railway development plan in July, 2016, envisioning eight lines from south to north and another eight lines east to west. The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway, with a total mileage of 2027km, will pass Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan, and serve as a major line linking eastern, central and southwestern China.

With an estimated investment of 35.74 billion yuan, the much-anticipated Haimen-Taicang tunnel underneath the Yangtze River kicked off construction on September 7 and is expected to open in the first half of 2028. It's also the second cross-river tunnel that began building in Nantong this year.
此外，9月17日，沿海开发的“牛鼻子”工程——连云港港30万吨级航道全线正式开通使用；
9月10日，高淳至宣城高速公路江苏段正式通车，同步纳入全国高速公路“一张网”运营；
9月1日，南沿江城际铁路正式进入全线铺轨阶段;
这些重大基础设施建设，对稳住经济大盘、拉动投资起到了重要作用。

同时，在物流保通保畅方面，全省交通运输部门一边动态调整优化、严格落实疫情防控措施，一边优化运输组织，助力产业链供应链稳定。1—8月，全省水路货运量、铁路货运量同比分别增长15.7%、7.6%。
To ensure the smooth operation of freight logistics, the province's transport authorities have taken a series of measures amid COVID-19 prevention and control efforts. Jiangsu's freight volume through waterways and railways in the first eight months increased by 15.7% and 7.6% year-on-year respectively.
